Extension of travel voucher

25 January 2021

A meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism was held on January 21, attended by Deputy Development Minister Andrzej Gut-Mostowy. The minister answered questions about the situation of tourism in an era of pandemonium and aid tools. One of them concerned the planned transfer of PLN 1 billion to mountain municipalities as compensation for the closed winter season. Committee members wanted to know why this support does not apply to local governments in other parts of the country, which are also suffering losses. The minister explained that the government is granting support to those resorts where, as statistics show, winter tourist traffic is the highest. – We are aware that the entire tourism industry throughout Poland is affected, we are not able to compensate for these losses, while this scale of turnover that takes place at ski steeps in winter and the loss to the municipalities where they are located is much higher than in other municipalities, he explained. During the meeting, the minister also commented on the issue of tourism vouchers, which were supposed to save the industry in a crisis, but are failing to serve their purpose when the economy is closed. He announced that the government is working on solutions to extend the operation of the voucher over time.
