Author’s Evening with Siegfried Neubauer

07 February 2020

We invite you to a meeting with the author of the interviews Siegfried Neubauer and the translator Marcin Wichrowski. It will take place on Valentine’s Day Friday, February 14, at 5:30 p.m. in the Municipal Public Library in Kostrzyn, 7 Dworcowa St. After the meeting it will be possible to purchase the publication at the price of PLN 60 (256 A4 pages). The price is due to the low circulation and the cost of translation. We cordially invite current and former residents of Kostrzyn, as well as all who are interested in the history of our city.

Siegfried Neubauer was born in Berlin in 1937, but it was in Kostrzyn that he spent the first years of his childhood. In 1945 he had to leave the city with his family and move deep into Germany. Many years later, after a chance meeting with former Kostrzyn resident Mrs. Tschacher, he decided to return here. This meeting gave rise to the idea of finding other residents of the former Küstrin and writing down their memories.

The first volume was published in 2004, and seven have been published since then. It was this first in the series of “Conversations with Kostrzynians” (“Gespräche mit Küstrinern”) that was translated into Polish. The book, in the form of interviews-recollections, is a very important position for researchers of Kostrzyn’s history. It is thanks to it that we can learn even more about the old town, life and customs of its inhabitants at that time. The publication also contains many hitherto unknown photographs – some of them are previously unpublished family heirlooms.
